Handling Weather Delays
How to properly document weather-related delays to protect your schedule and contract.
1. The Goal
Weather delays are inevitable, but if you don't document them properly, you could face liquidated damages for missing your completion date. This workflow ensures you have irrefutable proof of the delay.
2. Easy Desk Execution
When weather halts work, the field foreman should open Easy Desk and submit the following:
- Weather Log: Record the exact temperature and conditions (e.g., Heavy Rain).
- Job Site Photos: Take pictures of the site conditions (e.g., flooded trenches, unsafe scaffolding).
- Daily Report: Log that the crew was sent home early and explicitly state the weather as the cause for zero progress.
3. Pro Mode Follow-up
The Project Manager in the office will see these three items appear in the Pro Mode dashboard. They can then export the Weather Log and Photos as a PDF and immediately email the General Contractor or client to officially request a schedule extension.
